Story-Starter Sunday

magic pen (series C)Sunday!!! I’m in the process of watching my Steelers playing the Jets, but there is a commercial on, so I’m getting ready to post Story-Starter Sunday. I love this day. It’s always fun to think up different ideas for you. I hope you have as much fun using the story starters as I have writing them.

Story Starter: No matter how hard she tried, she just couldn’t break through to him.

Story-Starter Sunday

WordsAs you all know, I love story-starter Sunday. I’m sitting at Barnes & Noble, and I just finished listening to my Steelers lose to the Vikings in London. It’s been a rough start for them this year. This is the first time since 1986 that they’ve started their season 0-4. They get better every game, and that’s all I can ask for. So I think my story-starter will be based on today’s events. For those of you who aren’t familiar with Story-Starter Sunday, it’s just a one-liner for you to begin a story. Of course, you can use it any way that you want, but it’s meant to be the first line of your story. Have fun!

Story Starter: He picked himself up from the ground, slowly and painfully, then looked his nemesis squarely in the eye.

Hope you enjoy this one! Happy writing!

Sadly, it’s been a long time since I’ve posted here. Hopefully I’m back in full swing. I’ve been catching up with my other blogs and twitter. Now it’s time to catch up with this one. I try to think of interesting story-starters for those who desire a little inspiration. The idea is to use the line as the first sentence in your story or poem, but it’s really up to you to do whatever you really want with it. Here is your story-starter for this Sunday:

Superfluous Simile Saturday

So, I was looking at some websites for similes that I thought were humorous when I came across this post above about best/worst similes. I love it!

House of Figs

Borrowed from this blog.

  1. Her eyes were like two brown circles with big black dots in the center.
  2. He was as tall as a 6′3″ tree.
  3. Her face was a perfect oval, like a circle that had its two sides gently compressed by a Thigh Master.
  4. From the attic came an unearthly howl. The whole scene had an eerie, surreal quality, like when you’re on vacation in another city and Jeopardy comes on at 7:00 p.m. instead of 7:30.
  5. John and Mary had never met. They were like two hummingbirds who had also never met.
  6. She had a deep, throaty, genuine laugh, like that sound a dog makes just before it throws up.
  7. The ballerina rose gracefully en pointe and extended one slender leg behind her, like a dog at a fire hydrant.
  8. He was as lame as a duck. Not the metaphorical lame duck, either, but a real…
